When small vibration motors like pancake motors or pager motors cannot provide sufficient vibration force for certain applications, a larger ERM motor is needed. The primary factor determining the motor’s amplitude is the size of the eccentric rotating mass and the motor’s speed.

The voltage range for these larger “small vibration motors” is 3V-24V DC, based on your prototype requirements.These compact industrial vibration motors can be mounted onto an appropriate metal or plastic bracket. The motor casing features screw holes, allowing for easy installation onto the application surface.

The Technologies Of ERM Vibration Motors

ERM Vibration Motors

Eccentric Rotating Mass (ERM) motors are the original technology for generating vibrations. They are easy to use and come in various sizes, offering different vibration amplitudes and frequencies to suit various applications. These motors are found in products ranging from smartwatches to truck steering wheels.

ERM motors can be designed using several motor technologies, such as iron core, coreless, and brushless, available in both cylinder and coin shapes.

The advantages of ERM motors are their simplicity and ease of control, especially with DC motors. For longer lifespans, brushless motors are a good option.

However, a limitation is that the amplitude is geometrically linked to the frequency and speed, making it impossible to adjust them independently.

We offer these motors in three types: iron core for low cost, coreless for medium cost and performance, and brushless for the highest performance and durability.

The brushes and commutator play a crucial role in the performance of any DC motor. The choice of plating type and the method used for the components significantly impact the motor’s lifespan, just as the type of commutator polishing and lubricant applied can also influence its durability.

Our motor designs incorporate a variety of bearings and lubricants, chosen based on the specific application environment. In larger vibration motors, the bearing typically experiences the most wear, primarily due to the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the eccentric mass. We will provide recommendations to help avoid any issues with the application specifications.

Encapsulation

In certain applications, covering the rotating mass can be beneficial. Additionally, the motor can undergo an extra sealing process to offer enhanced protection against the penetration of fluids.
