The Technologies Of Brushless Vibration Motors

Brushless Coin Motor
The key feature of a mini brushless motor is the absence of brushes, which eliminates brush wear. This contributes to the motor’s higher efficiency, longer lifespan, and quieter operation.
The coin brushless motor includes a stator assembly, rotor assembly, and upper and lower shells. The smallest coin brushless motor we currently offer has a diameter of just 5 mm, making it ideal for lightweight wearables like smart rings and thin watches. A brushless DC motor lasts 5 to 10 times longer than a typical coin vibrator. They are more expensive due to the embedded IC used to drive the motor.
Brushless coin motors operate on DC voltage. It is important to avoid driving them in reverse, as this can damage the driver IC. To connect the motor, the positive voltage should be attached to the red (+) lead, and the negative voltage to the black (-) lead.
How Can You Operate A Brushless Coin Vibration Motor?
Power Supply

To drive a brushless coin vibration motor (BLDC coin motor), it operates directly under a DC power supply. Similar to regular brushed motors, these BLDC motors are powered by DC voltage.
Control Signal

The motor’s speed and vibration intensity can be controlled using PWM signals (Pulse Width Modulation). The user can adjust the vibration force and speed by varying the PWM duty cycle to achieve the desired vibration effect.
Polarity Check

It is crucial to ensure proper polarity when applying the power supply, as reversing the polarity can damage the motor’s internal drive IC. Unlike traditional motors, these brushless motors cannot be driven in reverse.
Vibration Motor Customization
We specialize in redesigning and tailoring vibration motors to meet the unique needs of our customers. The interactive graphic below highlights some common customizations we offer for brushed DC vibration motors. We also apply similar modifications to other technologies, including brushless, LRA, solenoid, and piezo motors.

Eccentric Mass
Modification

Modify the size, material, shape, and quantity of the eccentric mass(es) to optimize the vibration frequency and amplitude for the desired performance range.
Brushed Or
Brushless

While long-life brushes come at a higher cost, they remain more affordable compared to adopting brushless technology.a
Lead And Connector
Customization

We offer customized wire sets with a variety of connectors from brands like JST, Hirose, AMP, Molex, AVX, and Kyocera, which can be integrated into any motor we manufacture. Additionally, we can attach PCB “backpacks” to certain motors to reduce local EMI or provide extra circuit functionalities.
Brushes And
Commutator

The brushes and commutator play a crucial role in the performance of any DC motor. The choice of plating type and the method used for the components significantly impact the motor’s lifespan, just as the type of commutator polishing and lubricant applied can also influence its durability.
Bearings And
Lubricants

Our motor designs incorporate a variety of bearings and lubricants, chosen based on the specific application environment. In larger vibration motors, the bearing typically experiences the most wear, primarily due to the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the eccentric mass. We will provide recommendations to help avoid any issues with the application specifications.
Encapsulation

In certain applications, covering the rotating mass can be beneficial. Additionally, the motor can undergo an extra sealing process to offer enhanced protection against the penetration of fluids.

The Advantages Of Brushless Vibration Motors
Improve Efficiency

Unlike traditional ERM vibration motors, brushless DC motors eliminate the friction caused by brushes, as they don’t rely on mechanical commutation. This reduction in friction leads to lower energy loss and higher efficiency.
Extended Lifespan

DC brushless vibration motors offer a lifespan that is 5 to 10 times longer than traditional pancake vibration motors.
Consistent Performance

With an integrated IC for motor control, these motors deliver more stable performance, which contributes to their higher cost compared to brushed motors.
Reduced Maintenance

The absence of brushes eliminates the need for regular maintenance tasks such as cleaning and replacing worn brushes, which can be costly and time-consuming.
FAQ for Brushless Vibration motors
How to operate a BLDC brushless vibration motor?
To operate the BLDC coin motor, simply provide a DC voltage to the motor, and it will start vibrating. It’s important to remember that the integrated drive of the brushless motor cannot be driven in reverse, as this could damage the drive IC. Connect the motor leads with the red (+) lead to the positive voltage and the black (-) lead to the negative voltage.
What distinguishes a brushless coin vibration motor from a regular coin vibration motor?
Extended Lifespan: Brushless DC motors last at least 10 times longer than standard coin vibration motors, offering greater durability.
Higher Cost: BLDC coin motors are more expensive due to the embedded IC required to drive the motor.
Compact Size: The smallest BLDC motor available measures just 5mm x 2.5mm, making it ideal for lightweight wearable devices like smart rings, slim watches, and other portable electronics.
