The Technology Of 6mm Planetary Gear Motor
Key components of a planetary gear motor include the sun gear, planet gears, ring gear, planet carrier, and the driving motor. This design is akin to the orbital movement of planets around the sun in our solar system. In the gear train, three or more “planet” gears rotate around the sun gear, with the sun gear acting as the central drive element. When a gear motor is built using this arrangement, it is referred to as a DC planetary gear motor.
These miniature DC reduction motors are composed of two main components: a 6mm diameter coreless motor and a 6mm plastic gearhead. The gears, and entire reduction mechanism are made from liquid crystal polymers (LCPs), commonly referred to as plastic gear motors. However, the output shaft can be made of either plastic or metal. By pairing four different reduction boxes with four types of 6mm coreless motors, we can create a total of four distinct reduction motor series.

6mm Plastic Planetary Gear Head Options

Our standard planetary gear head features a D-shaped plastic output shaft with a diameter of 2 mm, which is flattened by 0.5 mm along a section. The “D” portion of the shaft measures 2.5 mm in length. The length of the miniature planetary gearbox varies depending on the gear ratio.
Additionally, we offer wire length customization and can provide various terminal types based on customer requirements, including options like JST, Molex, and others.

Operating Voltage:
2.1V - 3.6V
These motors are typically rated for 3.0V DC and function within a voltage range of 2.1V DC to 3.6V DC. If your application requires a lower starting voltage, we can adjust the motor’s starting voltage range to 0.8-1.2V DC.
Using voltages lower than the recommended range may result in improper operation, while higher voltages could shorten the lifespan of the 6mm gear motor. The output speed of this gear motor series ranges from 6420 rpm to 40 rpm, with an output current of 60mA and torque varying from 5g·cm to 200g·cm. If the motor experiences stalling or overload, the motor’s windings and brushes may be damaged within seconds.


Instantaneous Torque:

For these nylon gear transmissions, the peak instantaneous torque should not exceed 250g·cm. We highly recommend ensuring that application loads stay within this limit.
The motor’s optimal operating conditions, including free-running speed, stall torque, and stall current, are achieved when operating at a 3.0V DC voltage.
