Coreless DC motors eliminate the traditional laminated iron core in the rotor. Instead, they use a stationary high-performance toroidal magnet as the core. The motor’s windings are attached to the motor shaft and placed in a resin mould that rotates around the magnetic core. Without an iron core to support the windings, epoxy is often used to hold them in place.

This design is distinct from conventional DC motors, where the rotor has a ferromagnetic core. Coreless DC motors feature a low inertia design, allowing them to quickly accelerate, stop, and change direction, making them ideal for applications requiring high-speed and precise control.

One key advantage is increased efficiency, as magnetic losses are reduced. DC coreless motors, as the name implies, do not contain an iron core in the rotor. Instead, copper wire windings are arranged in a basket configuration, rotating around the outside of a cylindrical magnet. Coreless motors offer three key advantages:
